Senescence in aging MSCs

Due to their accessibility and convenient expansion protocols, MSCs have been recognized as promising candidates for cellular therapy. To avoid questioning the equivalence of MSCs isolated from different sources and expanded from various protocols the international society for cell therapy developed following criteria to universally define mesenchymal stem cells that is adherence to plastic in standard culture conditions, expression of the surface molecules CD73, CD90 and CD105 in the absence of CD34, CD45, HLA –DR^-, CD14 or CD11b, CD79a or CD19 surface molecules as assessed by fluorescence-activated cell sorter analysis and a capacity for differentiation to osteoblasts, adipocytes and chondroblasts in vitro
